An exciting opportunity has arisen within Erskine Stewart’s Melville Hockey Club for a player/youth coach to join our club for the 2020/2021 season. We are an Edinburgh-based club, linked to Stewart’s Melville College, one of Scotland’s top hockey playing boys’ schools (Scottish Schools’ u15 and u18 champions in 2017 and 2018), which is where a large part of the coaching will be based. You will be playing for our Men’s or Ladies 1st teams, both currently in their respective Scottish National League 2nd Divisions, as well as coaching within the youth section of our club – one of the top u16 clubs in East of Scotland.
The combined coaching hours between ESMHC (club) and SMC (school) amount to approximately 21+ hours per week and we offer a competitive hourly rate. Coaching experience is preferred and the post will be subject to a full PVG/Criminal Records Bureau check. We are looking ideally for someone who has strong club/international level hockey playing experience, can speak a good level of English and has the right to work in the UK.
If you would like to work in one of the most beautiful cities in the world and play hockey whilst earning and gaining experience coaching a strong and successful school and club set up, please contact the Youth President, Ally Dodge, who will answer any questions and invite you to submit a CV and cover letter (along with two references).
As a club, our Men’s 1s were promoted from National 3 into National 2 last season and at the Christmas break we are currently sitting in 4th position. Our Ladies’ 1s have been strong contenders in WLN2, reaching the play-offs last season. Our home pitch is shared between the club and the school. It contains four changing rooms within its pavilion as well as a fantastic clubhouse which hosts regular social events and post-match teas. This opportunity will include free membership to the club as well as home and away playing tops.

My time here in Edinburgh has been an amazing experience. The school itself is nothing like I’ve ever experienced before in Australia. While the building is incredible, the facilities and resources for coaching are first class. The attitude of the students towards improving their hockey also makes this an unbelievable opportunity. The club hockey is also a great experience in itself. I’ve been able to get involved with coaching juniors of all age groups, while also being able to coach the 2s and 3s women. The best parts are being able to travel all around Scotland to play against some quality opposition and being able to socialise with a good group of people off the pitch. It’s with great sadness that I must go back to Australia and will miss the club and the school.
David Ogden – 2018/19 ESMHC Player/Coach

I have now spent two years in Scotland and at ESM Hockey Club and I have loved every bit of it, from the fantastic city of Edinburgh to the amazing people at the hockey club and the school. It has been such a great experience for me.
