Last weekend saw Erskine Stewart Melville Ladies Hockey Club retain their place in Scottish National League 1 for the 2016-17 season with a 7-5 aggregate win over Grange Ladies Hockey Club.
The teams played a two games over the weekend with early 10am starts on each day at the Glasgow National Hockey Centre in Glasgow to decide the prize.
Game 1 – ESM L1s HC vs Grange L1s HC
Game 1 got off to a rocky start for ESM when Grange took a very early 1-0 lead. ESM eventually got more into the game and leveled with a deflected penalty corner from Tutu.
The turning point of the game occurred when the Grange keeper was forced out of her D to try and clear a long ball that Tutu was about to collect for a 1 on 1. Unfortunately for Grange the ball missed the stick and contacted the keeper’s foot which led to a yellow card and a penalty corner. ESM scored twice with the player advantage to take a 3-1 lead.
The final score on Saturday was 5-2 for ESM and put them in control for the Sunday game.
Game 2 – ESM L1s vs Grange L1s HC
Game two looked interesting as Grange score twice in first half to have the tie very evenly balanced at 5-4 to ESM. But the next goal came from ESM to make it 2-1 on the day but more importantly restored a two goal lead 6-4. The game finish with Grange winning 3-2 but ESM won the tie 7-5 and retain their place in Scottish Hockey National League 1 for next season.
