ESM Mavericks fixtures reports

ESM Mavericks had a bit of a ‘holiday’ team today as many players were away due to it being half term. Some of the Eagles stepped up to play to help out with reduced numbers.

ESM Mavericks vs Grange Cheetahs

The first match was against Grange Cheetahs and was, in many eyes, quite an important game. Despite the squad being mixed, the team played like they have been playing together for years! They passed well, they trusted each other and played really nice, team hockey. They created many chances and Callum MacLennan broke the deadlock with a fantastic strike to the bottom corner, Duncan MacLennan taking the assist, after around 8 minutes.

2016-02-21 Mavericks3Both teams continued to play some very good hockey and the game was well balanced for most of the match. Sadly, with a minute to go, Grange (who are undefeated in their league) equalised and the game finished 1-1.

ESM Mavericks vs Reivers Rockets

The second match was against a strong Reivers Rockets. ESM put up a brave fight but struggled to break down a very strong defence and were 2-0 down with 5 minutes to go. The team defended well and everyone worked really hard for each other before the game was called short after an injury to one of the Rockets. The result of which is yet to be confirmed…

All in all, considering the lack of numbers and the challenges we faced, the team did themselves proud and there are a lot of positives to take away and work on for the rest of the season. A special well done to our Eagles, Charlie E, Luke, Millie and Duncan.
