Match report – SABRES

Today was the first day of matches for ESM Sabres, the latest addition to our youth teams.

ESM Youth Hockey Club
ESM Sabres getting ready for their first game.

First up was Inverleith Pumas and the Sabres got off to a flying start! Slick passing and great teamwork put them on the front foot from the start. It took them a while to get their first goal but it was a very well taken effort from Hamish Murray to put the Sabres in front. They continued to push forward and play great attacking hockey. Duncan MacLennan increased the lead to 2-0, scoring from a near impossible angle, and then scored again to make it 3-0! Inverleith scored a consolation goal in the dying seconds to make the final score 3-1 to the Sabres.

The second match was against a strong (and big!) Kelso team. A very even game with some outstanding defensive efforts from ESM Sabres. A draw looked the likely outcome from this and the final result was indeed 0-0. Again, the Sabres looked like they had been playing together as a team for years, not like this was their first match together. Fantastic effort from everyone and a great morning of hockey!!

Many thanks to the coaches, helpers and supporters!

Match Report – EAGLES

A brilliant morning was had watching our “wee” team play against 2 bigger / Stronger / Older sides Kelso and Inverleith.

First match against Inverleith saw us come away with a Draw, chances were few and far between and the defense and midfielders did a great job of keeping Inverleith out. Special mention for Charlie in goals who had loads of great saves.

The second match was against an all girl Kelso side, we went 1 nil up first goal scored by Luke, with assistance from Charlie. Kelso equalised fairly quickly with a rocket shot which went in off the post, it was the perfect shot and it was about the only thing that would have got past charlie the goalie. We scored again though ourselves, another pass from Charlie to Luke and an excellent finish. ALL of the kids played great, they all held their positions well and were all chasing the ball and crunching into tackles. Really impressive and their desire against older and bigger kids in both games was superb. The coach for Kelso made a lovely comment that she thought our team was brilliant and she was scared to ask how old they were, so great to get praise from the other team. On top of the skills and passion the kids all support each other and it is a close group.

Well done to Ally and his team for getting the kids ready, it’s a real privilege watching them. That is now 8 games for the Eagles i have seen, 6 wins and 2 draws, they have scored 20 goals and conceded 3. Well done Charlie S, Ava, Luke, Katie, Colin, Ben, Millie, Olivia, Charlie E, Connie and Poppie..Future Stardom beckons….
