Erskine Stewart's Melville FP
Hockey Club
In 1987, pupils from Daniel Stewart's and Melville College, Edinburgh, decided they wanted to continue playing together after leaving
school, hence Stewart's Melville Former Pupils Hockey Club was founded. The team was entered in the dizzy heights of Division 5 of
the East of Scotland District Hockey League. Five successive promotions took the team to East District, Division 1. The emphasis of the
Club was firmly on the social aspect of hockey, with drinks after the game being almost as important as the match itself, and the team
went on to enjoy success as East District Champions. The outgoing attitude has remained with our club members over the years, and
our superb clubhouse at Inverleith is now the focus for post match analysis. As more players were attracted to the Club, a 2nd XI was
formed, and achieved success in its first few years by being promoted three times.
Daniel Stewart's and Melville College
In 2000 a huge change to the Club was proposed, and we were delighted to form a new Ladies section of the hockey club, with the
former pupils of Mary Erskine School (the sister school of Stewarts Melville College) being the focus of the Ladies team. A new union,
Erskine Stewarts Melville FP Hockey Club was formed. The Men formed a 3rd XI in 2000, and in 2002 a Mens indoor team was created,
entering the Scottish National League, Division 5. Meanwhile the Ladies involvement in the club continues to grow, with a Ladies 2nd XI
being launched in 2003. Last season we increased the Mens side of things by adding a 4th XI and a Veterans (Over 35's) team.
The Mary Erskine School
The Club is going strong and has high ambitions for the future. Our aim is to have the Ladies 1st XI join the Mens team in the
National Leagues, while retaining a high regard for the social aspect of the sport also. We are an open club, and all new members are
more than welcome, and with more players, additional teams will be formed.
